USB memory card

My sis-in-law passed me something she got when she went to see the Formula One races in Silverstone some time back.

Was quite curious to find out what was inside.

Looks like a card.

Actually it's a USB memory card (capacity is slightly less than 1 GB but that's OK) and it fits perfectly into my wallet. Here pictured next to my normal USB memory stick.

Ideal gift for a geek and I was thinking - makes great advertising material as well. It was pre-loaded with some info about the team - BMW Sauber. Might turn out to be a collector's item because BMW has withdrawn from Formula One altogether.

It's a really cool gift. Thanks Eju.

Google PR or Alexa?

This is a very old topic among online marketers and I actually posted about it some time back. Read "Does Google PR matter?"

However, I have to bring it up again. The reason is that several potential advertisers keep asking me about my blog Google PR. For those who did not know PR stands for 'Page Rank'.

Right now my blog's Google PR is 3/10. I know it doesn't sound very impressive but you might be surprised to learn that my blog has the same rank as top Malaysian blogger - Kenny Sia. But that's where the similarities end. Kenny had an Alexa rank (another web ranking system) of 49,243 when I last checked while my blog is 338,261. Yes! It's higher. But unlike the Google page ranking system, in Alexa rankings, a smaller number is better. He also receives an average of 12,065 visits a day. I won't even reveal mine. Let's just say is way below his number and has fallen tremendously ever since I reduced the frequency of my postings on this blog.

I promise to start blogging religiously once I complete my PhD and I have more free time.

Coming back to the topic at hand, I guess it's beneficial for me to advertise my Google PR rather than Alexa, while I work on increasing the traffic to my blog.

White noise machines

When I initially heard about white noise machines, the first thing that came to mind was the horror movie "White noise" where a guy tries to contact his dead wife from beyond the grave.

Anyway, I later learnt that White noise sound machines are special devices that produce specific type of sounds that help to mask unpleasant noises. I was intrigued as I learnt that there are numerous forms of white noise machines in the market for different purposes. Apparently the most popular are the sleep-aid sound machines for colicky babies. As a dad of two kids I know how parents can suffer when the kids can't go to sleep. The sound is similar to wind blowing through trees or a rushing waterfall. My wife told me that it sounds like air coming in through a moving car window. Found a range of sounds machines at sleepwellbaby.com, some in the guise of soft toys.

These are not only for kids but may be effective for adults who have trouble falling to sleep. Besides insomniacs, installing a white noise machine in offices is said to improve productivity.

Do check out the wide range of high quality products for sleep, wellness and relaxation on the Sleepwellbaby website.
