New Dell Inspiron

Today is my wife's birthday and I had wanted to get her a new mobile phone but she went ahead and bought herself a new one. I had no choice but to think of some other gift. She's always hogging my PC and complaining that it's not fast enough all the time, so I decided to get her one as well - another Dell Inspiron 530. I guess you can call me a loyal Dell customer - after all I bought two PCs in one year.

I know it looks the same from the outside - it's what is inside that matters. Well my old (and cheap) Dell PC has an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor with 2MB cache, 1 Gig DDR2 667MHz RAM and 250GB Hard Drive. The new one has the Intel Core™ 2 Quad-Core Q9300 Processor (2.5GHz, 6MB cache, 1333MHz FSB) and 4GB 800MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM (4x1024). It also has a massive 500GB (7200rpm) SATA Hard Drive (I am not comparing with some of you guys who can't get enough hard drive storage).

I had some other options added including an Internal PCI 802.11b/g Wireless Network Card. Some great options like the 19-in-1 Media Card Reader, 256MB ATI® Radeon™ HD 3450 graphics card and Integrated 7.1 Channel High Definition Audio were included in the package.

Of course, it is not as cheap as the previous Dell but I found out that it was the cheapest available in the market with similar specs. We also need a higher spec PC to run some of the software for our research work including the SPSS statistical software. The old PC was sometimes frustratingly slow when it came to running some of the software I need to use.

No such problems with the new PC though. Really happy with its performance.

update:
The new PC cost me a total of £509.01 (inclusive of delivery and VAT). Fortunately, I got £70 off the net price.

Hmmm, well, I would buy myself a mobile phone if it meant I would get a computer! Haha. Seriously though, from all of the bad stuff that I hear from people about dell, I have always been pretty happy with them. Looks like you made a good choice, and I am sure your wife is happy!

Hi Adam,

How much is that? Care to share the price? Or did you get some special promotional discount?

Cheers!

Wow! That is quite a price. FYKI, you could get even better or the same for lesser price if you ask our junior friends at 45 New Land Road Coventry to build one for you. I have seen they build few PC & Super PC & they are very good. Have fun with your new PC.

Yes but I wanted a branded pc with original software and the warranty that comes with it. I had too many problems with my old PC that I don't want to take any chances.

Kudos to you Adam. I always knew there were others like me who still loves Dell and their ability to customize the computers.

How much that costs? That is really a wow type pc. She not gonna need to change it for 4 years ahead.
